As always from 1-7 August every year, the world commemorates World Breastfeeding Week (WBW), this year will not be any different.
Last year, 2016, the WBW was immersed in teaching how the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding were a key to sustainable development. This year, 2017, the WBW will concentrate on how we can all come together to sustain breastfeeding. Since September 2015, the whole world has been trying to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals in all the works carried out. Breastfeeding shouldn’t be any different, so the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been grouped into four Thematic Areas that relate to each other and to breastfeeding.
- Nutrition, Food Security & Poverty Reduction; this involves SDG 1, 2, 3 & 12
- Survival, Health & Well-being; this involves SDG 1, 3, 4, 10 & 11
- Environment & Climate Change; this involves SDG 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15
- Women’s Productivity & Employment; this involves SDG 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 & 10
More on how these SDGs interact under the four thematic areas can be accessed by clicking on the link below:
